Job Summary

The Department of Corrections is filling a Correctional Teaching Assistant at our Red Wing facility! This position provides support and assistance to teachers in the delivery of language arts and math instruction and learning, and credit recovery, in a well-managed and comprehensive learning environment to support students' personal education plans.

This position is located at a Minnesota Correctional Facility and will have contact with students who are incarcerated

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

To be qualified for and considered for this position, ensure that your resume contains descriptions of your work experiences sufficient for comparison against the requirements stated below and indicate the beginning and ending month and year for each job held.

  • Experience in an educational or office setting
  • Ability to effectively operate office equipment
  • Experience using email, calendar, presentation, word processing, database, and spreadsheet software applications (e.g. Microsoft Office or similar)
  • Ability to read, speak, and write in English
  • Ability to tutor students in reading, writing, math, and educational technology
  • Skills in records management sufficient to gather and maintain statistical and other data for reporting purposes
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work successfully with a diverse population

Preferred Qualifications

The following qualifications are strongly desired of applicants seeking consideration for this position:

  • Completion of an Associate's degree or higher
  • Experience and skill in educational program platforms sufficient to monitor and manage a computer lab
  • Classroom experience, including teaching, conducting training classes/workshops, and/or tutoring
  • Experience working in an educational setting
  • Experience working in a correctional setting

Physical Requirements

Additional Requirements

The selection process may include screening the top candidate(s) on their criminal history, predatory offender registration, offender associations and/or other applicable background information in accordance with Department of Corrections’ policy. Top candidate(s) must pass a criminal history check which includes successful completion of all sentencing and/or restitution requirements of law enforcement jurisdictions, including probation.

Employment history/reference checks, including incidents of sexual harassment, will also be conducted on the top candidate(s) in accordance with Department of Corrections’ policy. This may include a review of job performance and discipline records.

New employees will be fingerprinted within the first 30 days of employment.
