This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening
community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Personal Trainer position at
the Valley Shore YMCA is responsible for providing an enjoyable, high quality, and safe exercise prescription to
YMCA members and program participants.

Duties ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Assists in building Personal Training Program by completing initial workouts, selling training, and
maintaining an active client base of satisfied YMCA members
2. Adheres to, models and enforces all YMCA Policies and Procedures to keep environment safe and
welcoming to all.
3. Provides quality personal training to all clients providing fitness modifications, keeping current on fitness
trends and providing excellent communication
4. Keep accurate records of client visits and workouts for accurate billing and revenue collection
5. Work as a team member maintaining a professional, helpful and positive attitude
6. Help maintain a clean environment in Wellness Center
7. Keeps current on all required certifications in Personal Training, CPR, First Aid and AED
8. Other tasks and projects as assigned
Requirements QUALIFICATIONS:
? High school diploma is required.
? National Personal Training Certification required; Bachelor?s Degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology or
other related field with personal training certification preferred.
? Must possess a working knowledge of fitness trends and physical education skills.
? Must have experience in strength training principles and general health enhancement
? Prior personal training/fitness/wellness and customer service experience required
? Must possess general health and wellness knowledge including biomechanics, anatomy, nutrition, injury
prevention, cardiovascular and strength training principles, coaching skills and basic machine and facility
maintenance
? Must be able to pass background check
? AFAA, ACE, NSCA, NASM or ACSM Certification(s)
? Must possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills
? Current Community CPR, First Aid, & AED Essentials required within 30 days of hire
? New staff orientation, child abuse prevention, ongoing YMCA 101 trainings, YMCA?s Healthy Lifestyle
Principles and Strength & Conditioning trainings and certifications must be obtained within the first 90
days of employment or next available certification training
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
? Typical physical function may include climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling,
reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and
repetitive motions.
? Position is expected to be able to demonstrate all training aspects of a workout which can be described as
medium to strenuous work and will vary by client
? Must be able to frequently lift a minimum of 45 pounds efficiently and safely
? While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to talk and/or hear
? The employee will regularly be required to see at close and distant vision, have good peripheral vision,
depth perception and ability to adjust focus
