Requirements The
Live Sound Technician is initially a 1-year term position in the Department of Performing Arts at Georgetown University College of Arts & Sciences. The technician supports high-quality audio for diverse performances and educational initiatives within the Department of Performing Arts in the Davis Center for Performing Arts, McNeir Hall, and remote locations. By maintaining professional audio practices, this role is vital for both theater productions and music performance across our interdisciplinary framework. The technician ensures top-quality sound in performances that bridge multiple departments and initiatives, such as the Racial Justice Institute, Humanities Initiative, and Dishabilles Studies. This position also supports the educational impact on students through direct involvement in sound-related courses and live performance setups. The Live Sound Technician is integral to maintaining the high standards of performance and education that define the Department of Performing Arts at Georgetown University. Duties include but are not limited to:
- Operate advanced sound mixing boards and audio equipment across a variety of performances.
- Collaborate with a diverse range of artists and scholars, supporting interdisciplinary performances that feature unique collaborations across academic fields.
- Provide audio support for department-led initiatives and collaborations, enhancing the community's engagement with social justice through performing arts.
- Assist in the design and execution of sound for productions that explore complex global themes, reflecting the department's commitment to social engagement and critical inquiry.
- Facilitate workshops and demonstrations for students, incorporating hands-on learning experiences that are integral to the department's educational strategies.
Work Interactions The Live Sound Technician reports to the Director of Production and works closely with both faculty and students. This production staff role is a critical in realizing the department's vision of merging performing arts with liberal arts education, ensuring that sound design and operation contribute significantly to the intertwined educational and performance goals of our programs. The technician will collaborate frequently with faculty, including from other departments and programs, reflecting our interdisciplinary approach that includes Film and Media Studies, Anthropology, and more. This collaboration not only enhances the department's academic offerings but also supports our community engagement initiatives, making the technician a key player in our ongoing dialogues around performance, culture, and social justice.
Requirements and Qualifications - Bachelor's degree or equivalent
- At least 4 years of experience in live sound, particularly in an academic or professional venue setting
- Demonstrable proficiency with a variety of audio equipment, including digital and analog sound mixing boards
Preferred Requirements and Qualifications - Bachelor's degree in Sound Engineering, Audio Technology, or related field
- Extensive experience in a multi-use performing arts environment
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to effectively collaborate with a diverse academic and artistic community
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work flexibly in a dynamic, interdisciplinary environment

$47,586.00 - $87,558.13
Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate's individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University's business needs and external factors.
