Role Overview: This position will serve as a History Unit Intern for the Environmental Services Division of the Indiana Department of Transportation. The Intern will be responsible for a variety of Division projects and support. The objective of the position is to provide a valuable learning experience for the Intern, as well as to assist the agency in completing their assignments and responsibilities. The Intern will report to the History Unit Team Lead. Salary Statement: The hourly rate for this position is $16.24 for those that do not hold a bachelor's degree & $17.24 for those that hold a bachelor's degree or higher by the time the internship starts. Location: This position is located in INDOT's Central Office, Indianapolis. A Day in the Life: The essential functions of this role are as follows: Identify and execute one major project related to agency needs and academic area of study Create, develop, and sustain the programmatic efforts for the assigned discipline Analyze data and feedback to provide recommendations Partner with other relevant stakeholders to promote and enhance the quality of projects Collaborate with State of Indiana agencies to ensure effective implementation of internal and external initiatives Data management for GIS layers related to above-ground historic resources Assist with research and writing related to the in-house preparation of historic property reports and related documents, as needed Conduct records searches for small projects Attend (virtually or in-person) Section 106 consulting party meetings, public hearings, and state historic preservation review board meetings, etc. Assist with above-ground architectural field surveys, as needed Participation in cross-training opportunities within Environmental Services Division The job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee. What You'll Need for Success: Must be currently enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate with an accredited post-secondary institution and have completed at least one (1) year of undergraduate education.
