The Department of Middle Eastern Languages and Cultures (MELC) at the University of Washington in Seattle, Washington invites applications for an Assistant Teaching Professor to a 3-year, non-tenure track appointment in Persian language and culture to begin in September 2025. This is a full-time, 9-month position, renewable pending a review during its third year.

Our faculty, staff, and students are intellectually engaged with the ways that race, gender identity, sexuality, ability, class, and ethnicity intersect and shape the human experience, both within the educational experience and outside of it. Through this work, we encourage all members of the Department of Middle Eastern Languages and Cultures to think critically about the world around them.
Responsibilities will include teaching elementary and intermediate-level language courses, as well as additional content courses on Persian and Iranian culture to be determined in consultation with the MELC department. The successful candidate will be expected to develop curricular materials, including digital instructional tools, to assist in program building, and to engage in community and campus outreach.
Washington State Law requires that this ad list a binding salary range. The base salary range for this position will be $6,773 - $9,000 per month on a 9-month basis ($60,957 - $81,000 annually), commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.
The successful candidate for this position:
* will, by the start of the appointment, have in hand a Master's degree (or foreign equivalent) in a relevant field such as Persian language, Persian culture, language pedagogy, or applied linguistics. A PhD (or foreign equivalent) in these fields is also acceptable.
* will have superior proficiency in Persian, as demonstrated by teaching reviews.
* will have demonstrated excellence, as demonstrated by teaching reviews, in college-level Persian language teaching at all levels to diverse groups of students, including heritage learners.
